Day 21: Bird

Bird Doodle in Sketchbook

This afternoon I decided to add a simple bird doodle to my sketchbook. So you might say that I put a bird on it!

Day 17: Water Droplets

Water Droplets Watercolor

Watercolor Water Dropletss

Tonight, I spent some time using watercolors to paint in a big doodle of water droplets, while also getting myself reacquainted with how watercolors behave and how these behaviors can be utilized. I used to use watercolor a lot, but it’s been a while, so this ended up being a really helpful exercise.

As a side note, it has been incredibly dry in my apartment so I bought a humidifier yesterday and used it last night for the first time. And I feel amazing today! No sore throat, no sneezes, no congestion!

Halfway through painting these water droplets, I started to wonder if I subconsciously decided to make these water droplets because I love my humidifier so much. I guess I’ll never know…

Day 16: Black Bean Soup

Black Bean Soup in Pot

Tonight, I made a giant pot of black bean soup. It was so giant, in fact, that it required 26 cups of water, 28 cloves of garlic, and 2 pounds of beans (and lots more of other stuff, too).

The result is enough tasty soup for the soup exchange I’m doing with co-workers (I needed to make 4 servings to distribute out to people), as well as plenty of soup for freezing. Yay!

More photos. These are from our day cross country skiing and hiking in the Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest in Wisconsin. We had great weather and enjoyed spending time and being active outdoors. A lovely day!

Today, I went to Costco with some friends (and bought large quantities of things like toilet paper and wine) and then drove around with them and my boyfriend to find “for rent” signs. They’re hoping to move to my neighborhood. Yay!

These are just pictures from my day.

Day 13: Spirographical Errors

Today, I played with the ol’ spirograph. It’s the exact toy I used as a kid, actually, and my mom has had it tucked away all these years. When I asked her about it, she was all “Of course I still have your spirograph!”

Anyways, I made a few perfect doodles with the thing, but I found the mistakes pretty interesting, especially the first one. It was made with the impossible-to-use football gear. One day I will figure that thing out.

I will not be made a fool by that football.

Day 12: Blue

Painting of man in blue watercolor

Today, I painted this blue fellow, who is based on an illustration from the book Radioactive: Marie & Pierre Curie: A Tale of Love and Fallout.  I first learned about this book from brainpickings.org, an EXCELLENT website that summarizes itself as “Interestingness, curated – picking culture’s collective brain for innovation, inspiration & brilliant ideas.”

Here’s a link to the Brain Pickings post about this lovely book.

Unrelated, as I did with this blue guy, over the next few weeks, I’m going to try to recreate things that I find inspirational as a way to build my skill and creativity. Here’s hoping it will help!
