Day 245: Paper Star #2

Paper StarLast Saturday, I finished my paper star. Here’s a summary of what I did to make this.

  1. Created a star-shaped paper frame using pieces of black construction paper glued together.
  2. Glued white paper to the back of the star and then trimmed it to also be the same star shape as the frame.
  3. Glued together strips of red paper to make long strips that would fit over the whole star. I did the same with pink strips of paper.
  4. Then, I glued the strips of paper onto the star, alternating between the red and pink sort of randomly.
  5. Finally, I trimmed off any of the excess paper so that the paper strips formed to the shape of the paper star.

Mine star is now hanging on my bedroom wall, and I love it! I would guess that the whole project took about 2.5 hours total over the two days.

Day 242: Waves

Waves

Last Wednesday, I took Jim out for a super secret date to the top of the Hancock building and then to Frontera Grill for dinner (it was super fun). Because I was meeting Jim downtown around 6, I stayed at work and did some pen tool practice on Illustrator, which you see here. It was the perfect way to get my project done early so I could really enjoy the evening.

Day 239: Seasons Change

Last Sunday, I set out to write the lyrics to a song without writing the music at the same time, something I don’t usually do. This is what I came up with. In the near future, I’ll set it to music and post a recording.

Seasons Change
The fall comes in soft and slow
and although I try to ignore it
The days get cool and the nights get cold
how summer wanes much too quick

Our suntanned skin will quickly fade
and the sand will fall from our feet
and we’ll all run out of lemonade
as we move inside to find a seat

Oh goodbye summer, I’ll miss you
Oh goodbye summer, come back soon
Oh goodbye summer, Oh I’m a fool
I’m a fool for you

So we all pull out our hats and scarves
and we light up the fires and we buckle down
We put on our coats and cover our arms
It’ll be six months now til we get out

The seasons change and they harden you up
You’re just digging yourself out of snow and muck
This is what life in Chicago means
you’re freezing your ass two days out of three

Oh goodbye summer, I’ll miss you
Oh goodbye summer, come back soon
Oh goodbye summer, Oh I’m a fool
I’m a fool for you
