Day 141: In the Garden

Feet in Grass

Climbing Plant

Yesterday, I attempted to make a thank you card for Jim’s parents (for letting us vacation at their lovely Arizona home a few months back), and the card was a miserable failure. Therefore, I am posting a few pictures I took while we were out in the garden weeding and otherwise getting ready for planting.

Day 70: Yellow Roses

Yellow Roses

Today I knew I wanted to make yellow flowers on a black background, but I also knew I was feeling way to lazy to actually color in a black background. To avoid it, I got a little creative.  I colored the flowers in blue, made the petals pink, and left the background white,. Then I made an inverse of the drawing, and TA DA! I have a picture of yellow roses with a black background that I didn’t require an hour long black Sharpie session. Yay!

Day 59: Flowers

Blue Flowers

Watercolor Flowers

I knew the day would come when I didn’t like what I made. For whatever, I felt like these flowers were kind of cursed the minute I started watercoloring them. Perhaps because I immediately hated the way the red paint looked over the light orange marker. In any case, I used the original to create an inverted version, which is posted first here, and I like that. I guess that makes me feel better.

Note: I used this cute doodle from Christy Tomlinson as a basis for the flowers.

Day 46: Squirrel

Squirrel Drawing

I can’t believe I drew a squirrel tonight. See, this summer, my roommate and I grew these beautiful sunflowers in our garden, and one day we found several of them destroyed. Over the next few weeks, all of them were knocked in half and eaten. At first, we weren’t sure what kind of creature would so such a thing, but one morning, I caught a squirrel jumping onto one of our lovely plants. I was so pissed. While still wearing my bath robe, I chased the squirrel around the garden screaming at it and threatening to hit it with a broom. I scared it away for the time being, but it came back later in the week and finished off the sunflowers. It was pretty sad and definitely made me wonder whether squirrels are actually evil beings in cute disguises. Something to think about…

Day 14: Winter in Chicago

Currency Exchange

Today, I went to Costco with some friends (and bought large quantities of things like toilet paper and wine) and then drove around with them and my boyfriend to find “for rent” signs. They’re hoping to move to my neighborhood. Yay!

These are just pictures from my day.
