Yosemite

Half Dome in YosemiteYesterday was my co-workers birthday, so I painted him a birthday card. The painting is  a view of Half Dome across the Ahwahnee Meadow in Yosemite and is actually based on a photo that my co-worker took, which he found very touching. It was a fun card to give 🙂

Day 151: Color Predictions for Fall 2013

I feel like I am always having weird premonitions about fashion trends, and I had one the other day about a color I think is going to be in, let’s say next fall. Note that I had a similar premonition about emerald green a while back, which has completely come true. In any case, Jim says I need to start documenting these premonitions so I have evidence for him when they come true.

So without further ado, I am making color predictions. The color that I think will soon be in is this one:

Along with that, I also think military green, gold, light peach, and mauve  will be coming back in:

Basically, what I’m trying to say is that I think the 1940’s are coming back in. I think that means there will also be some dramatic burgundy and light blue and maybe a few of these colors…

Day 145: Lines and Shapes

Lines and ShapesThursday night was laundromat night so I brought my sketchbook and markers with while my laundry spun around in the dryer. It reminds me a bit of  the black and white pieces by Piet Mondrian, although less symmetric or parallel.

Day 143: Bottles

BottlesLast night, I made a watercolor sketch of bottles as a way to practice overlapping paints. Actually, it’s the perfect thing to be posting tonight because, after our swing dance lesson this evening, Jim and I went to Webster’s Wine Bar and tried three of their wine flights. It was really great because we got to taste 9 different wines, including some really wonderful reds that tasted of things like brie, roses, barnyard, and lilacs. Cheers to a great experience at the wine bar!

Day 69: Cactus and Balloon

Cactus and Balloon
I originally sketched out this image in 2004, but it’s one of my absolute favorites. There’s so much emotion to it! The cactus! What is he to do? The balloon is coming right at him, and he loves it. But he will destroy it with his spines if it comes near!

Haha, anyways, tonight I used Photoshop to color in the original sketch. I like the results, but I feel like I still have lots to learn about using Photoshop for this type of thing.

Day 68: Squares

SquaresDid some pointillist squares in pen tonight. It was pretty easy, which was good because I made a rather fancy dinner of braised short ribs and my first-ever mashed homemade mashed potatoes. The meal turned out pretty good.

Day 55: Abstracts

Abstract Scan

Abstract Scan Blue

Abstract Scan Sepia

I did a fun little project tonight with my scanner. First, I cut out shapes from a magazine, pasted them on a white piece of paper, and drew some black lines. Then, I put the paper on the scanner and pulled it up an down and scooted it around a little to add texture. After, I used Picasa to up the saturation and contrast and change the colors around. Yay!
